Roger Hoffman, began his artistic life painting impressionistic pieces but soon after moving to Arizona in 1994, began to concentrate on mixed media sculptures.
Inspired by the spiritual and ethereal nature of the elements - earth, sky and water - as well as the beauty of the southwest - mountains, desert and winds - he began to interpret southwestern Native American lore through natural materials rarely used in the art world.
With these inspirations Roger interprets the "spirits" in an enigmatic flow of natural hides,, bones, feathers, and beads. He uses only natural materials, such as antler rosettes or turtle shells to portray the ancient faces without features.
Roger Hoffman is not a Native American yet his sensibility towards the North American Indian culture belies that origin.
